Ferry and Oil Tanker Collide Near Penang Port, 21 Injured

A collision between the Malaysian-flagged ferry Teluk Bahang and the oil tanker Mekar Jaya occurred near Penang Port on Tuesday, 1 September at around 8:40 pm local time, injuring 21 people out of 92 involved in the incident. Six injuries were reported as severe. The Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) responded and evacuated passengers. The Penang Port Commission (PPC) formed a special task force to investigate the collision and instructed the ferry operator to review its operating procedures.
