Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has developed a 35,000 cubic meter tanker for the transport of LPG and ammonia. ClassNK evaluated the vessel's design concept and, after confirming that it complies with the established requirements, issued an Approval in Principle (AiP).
The certificate presentation ceremony was held at the Gastech 2026 exhibition in Bangkok, Thailand.
HHI developed the vessel taking into account compliance with various regulations in force at major terminals, including those in Japan. ClassNK conducted an evaluation based on rules for the inspection and construction of steel ships incorporating the IGC Code, the international regulation for the development and equipment of ships carrying liquefied gases in bulk. After confirming that the design concept met the established requirements, the AiP was issued.
Both HHI and ClassNK stated that they will continue to strive to promote safe and efficient gas transport technologies, as well as contribute to the decarbonization of the maritime industry and the creation of a sustainable society.
