DBMatic, part of De Boer Marine, and Weforsea Shipping have joined forces to launch MariControl, a new maritime data technology company based on years of cooperation between both companies.
DBMatic brings its expertise in onboard hardware and data infrastructure, while Weforsea Shipping contributes its experience in software and maritime digitalization.
The idea arose from the growing collaboration between both companies in different parts of the same vessel data chain. By integrating data collection, onboard hardware, connectivity, software, and AI-driven analysis, MariControl aims to offer shipowners and operators a single environment to collect, interpret, and utilize vessel data.
The technologies are already installed on more than 250 vessels, where DBMatic's hardware and sensors are integrated with Weforsea's software to optimize navigation, gain insights into energy efficiency, market data, and weather information through a single dashboard.
MariControl will serve the maritime and fishing sectors, as operators face increasing pressure to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, simplify reporting requirements, and convert the growing volume of onboard data into useful operational information.
Instead of adding another standalone system, MariControl will connect onboard sensors, equipment, and communication infrastructure with software, dashboards, and AI-driven analytics. The goal is to make vessel data more useful for daily decision-making onboard and ashore.
Applications include vessel performance monitoring, predictive maintenance, weather routing, fuel and emissions optimization, digital reporting and regulatory compliance, as well as AI-supported tools for the fishing sector.
The platform can, for example, help determine which route offers the best balance between fuel consumption, weather conditions, and travel time.

Co-owner Meindert-Jan de Boer explained that "MariControl was founded on the conviction that the maritime industry needs more than just a technology provider. By combining our expertise in hardware, software, and AI, we want to help maritime companies transform their operational data into better decisions and prepare for the next phase of digitalization."
One of MariControl's first areas of focus will be digital reporting and regulatory compliance. The reporting modules are designed to reduce the administrative burden on shipowners and crews by using data already available on the vessel, without the need for new onboard hardware installations. This comes in a context of increasing digitalization of maritime reporting and a constant increase in regulatory demands.
MariControl will initially focus on clients in the Netherlands and the broader European market, with the ambition to expand internationally in the coming years. For current DBMatic and Weforsea Shipping clients, existing service agreements, installed systems, and usual contact points will be maintained.
