Port of Geraldton welcomes first KCC vessel with eSAIL sails

The Mid West Ports Authority celebrated the call of the MV Baltazar, the first Klaveness Combination Carriers vessel equipped with wind-assisted propulsion technology. The vessel incorporates two 24-meter eSAIL suction sails that harness wind power to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. It operates as a combination carrier, transporting liquid cargo to Australia and returning with dry bulk goods, improving supply chain efficiency.

Mid West Ports Authority celebrated the call of the MV Baltazar at the Port of Geraldton as part of the innovation being developed in the global shipping industry. The vessel is the first in the Klaveness Combination Carriers (KCC) fleet equipped with wind-assisted propulsion technology.

The unit incorporates two 24-meter eSAIL suction sails that harness wind power to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

Combined with a suite of energy efficiency systems, the vessel was designed to support lower-carbon shipping.

The MV Baltazar also operates as a combination carrier, transporting liquid cargo to Australia and returning with dry bulk goods. This innovative model reduces empty backhauls, improves vessel utilization, and strengthens supply chain efficiency.
