A major collision occurred between two bulk carriers off the outer anchorage of Kandla Port on 11 August. All the crew aboard both vessels were reported safe, while one of the bulk carriers sustained damage and was at risk of sinking.

The incident involved the bulk carrier Libera-flagged Kmax Emperor, loaded with coal, which collided with Barboras-flagged True Mariner, which was anchored near the Outer Tuna Buoy (OTB) Anchorage of Kandla.
Following the collision, True Mariner suffered no significant damage, and all 19 crew aboard the vessel were safe, while Kmax Emperor sustained a breach on its port side and was at risk of sinking.
Promptly, the Indian Coast Guard launched a rescue operation and evacuated 21 of the 24 crew members aboard Kmax Emperor, while the captain of Kmax Emperor and two chief engineers stayed aboard to assess the situation and manage technical operations.
Two Indian Coast Guard vessels were deployed to the scene, while port-authority tugs were placed on standby. Kmax Emperor was subsequently reported to be stable.
The Indian Coast Guard also activated pollution-response measures and is coordinating with India's Directorate General of Shipping and other government authorities.
