The Panama Canal will maintain the current maximum authorized draft for Neopanamax vessels at 48 feet (14.6 meters), based on the most recent evaluation of Gatun Lake levels and weather forecasts.
The previously announced reduction to a 47.5-foot draft (14.4 meters), which was scheduled to take effect on October 1, 2026, "is postponed until further notice," the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) reported.
"Maintaining the current draft provides clients with greater continuity for their voyage planning and vessel scheduling," it added.
Likewise, the Panamanian entity stressed that the determination "reflects the Panama Canal's commitment to respond promptly to changing conditions, addressing the needs of its clients without compromising the safety or efficiency of its operations."
"The Canal will continue to evaluate water conditions and will provide due notice of any future changes that may affect vessel draft requirements. This continuous monitoring is part of its commitment to offer its clients a reliable, predictable, and efficient service," the letter concluded.
