The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) highlighted today that the oil company Anadarko reaffirmed its interest in continuing its investments in Peru and is therefore advancing in exploratory drilling in Lot Z-62, located on the country's northern coast.
The Minister of Energy and Mines, Guillermo Shinno, held a meeting with representatives of Anadarko-Oxy, Pedro Romero, Douglas Roberts, and César Ardiles, who reported on the progress of their exploration activities in lots Z-61, Z-62, and Z-63, located off the coasts of La Libertad and Lambayeque, and ratified the decision to continue exploring the hydrocarbon potential of the northern part of the country.
During the meeting, the company explained that it is completing the interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic studies, which allowed the identification of prospects with high hydrocarbon potential, and that natural hydrocarbon evidence detected through satellite images and drop cores supports the existence of an active petroleum system.
"Based on the results obtained, Anadarko indicated that it has decided to enter the third phase of the project, which includes the commitment to drill an exploratory well in Lot Z-62, which will provide more information and evaluate future development and investment opportunities in the area," emphasized Minem.
Minister Shinno highlighted the progress made by the company and noted that the Government is working to strengthen the country's competitiveness, attract new investments, and promote the valorization of its energy resources.
In this regard, he stressed that the continuity of these initiatives contributes to generating new opportunities for development and growth for the country.
He added that it is key to have efficient permitting that provides predictability to investments and allows for timely progress with initiatives, respecting environmental and social obligations.
In turn, the Vice Minister of Hydrocarbons, Iris Cárdenas, explained that the sector is working on regulatory proposals aimed at streamlining these processes.
"Minem reaffirms its willingness to strengthen coordination among the competent entities of the sector, creating conditions that support and facilitate new investments and contribute to the strengthening of the hydrocarbon sector and the country's energy security," the ministry pointed out.
