The Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, Sayuri Bayona Matsuda, highlighted the actions of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) to consolidate special economic zones (SEZs) as platforms for attracting investment, diversifying exports, and productive development in strategic sectors.
During her participation in the academic forum "Future Vision of Peru's Special Economic Zones," organized by the Special Development Zone (ZED) Paita, within the framework of its 30th institutional anniversary, the Deputy Minister affirmed that Mincetur is "strengthening the role of SEZs in important national policy instruments, such as the Multisectoral National Foreign Trade Policy until 2040, with a vision that seeks for SEZs to strengthen their competitiveness and their integration into global value chains."
Deputy Minister Bayona added that ZED Paita, located 3 kilometers from the port of Paita, has the opportunity to consolidate itself as an investment platform for the northern region of the country, taking advantage of its strategic location, and its strengthening will allow for greater participation of regional companies in global value chains.
Likewise, the Deputy Minister emphasized that Mincetur continues with the modernization of the regulatory framework for the SEZ system, with the aim of generating clearer, more competitive, and stable conditions for investment.
"Initiatives such as the enablement of private foreign capital investment in the Tacna Free Zone Complex and the development of the legal framework for private special economic zones expand opportunities for investors and strengthen Peru's SEZ model, promoting greater private sector participation and the development of new economic activities," she stated.
In this way, Mincetur reaffirms its commitment to strengthening special economic zones, promoting a model that contributes to competitiveness, the diversification of exportable offerings, and the generation of opportunities for the country's regions.
