With dishes full of tradition, family memories, and local identity, the gastronomic contest "Flavors with History: Recipes from the Jorge Inostroza Neighborhood" was held. This initiative was promoted by the Quiero Mi Barrio Program, the Municipality of Iquique, Inacap through its Gastronomy program, and Iquique Terminal Internacional (ITI).
The activity brought together emblematic recipes such as arrollado de mono, picarones, homemade cakes, beans, and pantrucas stuffed with llama meat, among other preparations that are part of the gastronomic heritage of this traditional sector of the city. The day highlighted the value of neighborhood identity and collaborative work among the community, public, private, and academic sectors.
The president of the Neighborhood Council of the Jorge Inostroza population, Alicia Naranjo, praised the development of this type of activity. "This contest demonstrates that when different public and private institutions work together with the community, it is possible to create spaces for participation and integration that strengthen neighborhood life. We are happy to see how our neighbors get involved and proudly share their traditions," she added.
For his part, the General Manager of ITI, Rodrigo Pommiez, emphasized that "collaborative work is fundamental for generating initiatives with a positive impact on the community. As a company, we will continue to promote alliances that contribute to sustainable development and the strengthening of local identity."
First place was awarded to senior citizen Jorge Soto, a member of the Eugenio Soto Florido Club, thanks to his preparation of picante de locos, which captivated the jury with its flavor and territorial roots.
