The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), through the National Port Authority (APN), strengthens the international cooperation of the Peruvian port system with the signing of the "Dante B. Fascell Port of Miami-Dade and Port of Callao Sister Ports Declaration."
This measure will promote the exchange of information and experiences on cargo and cruises, port statistics, infrastructure projects, market studies, and best practices. It also includes technical cooperation mechanisms, educational visits, and the possibility of developing specialized working groups between both institutions.
This alliance is particularly relevant due to the importance of the Port of Callao for Peruvian foreign trade, as it channels approximately 68% of national exports. Likewise, the United States constitutes a strategic market: 62% of the TEUs exported to that destination through Callao are moved by DP World Callao.
The connection with PortMiami will strengthen the relationship between two strategic points for commercial exchange. Products such as fishmeal and fish pellets, fresh grapes, avocados, and blueberries, mineral concentrates, frozen squid, plastic manufactures, ceramics, and tiles are moved from Callao. In the measurement considered, fishmeal and fish pellets represent 71% of exports in this category.
The agreement also includes the formation of a bilateral working group that will promote and monitor cooperation actions. In this way, the signing marks the beginning of a concrete agenda to share knowledge, experiences, and opportunities in port matters, beyond the ceremonial act.
With this initiative, the MTC reaffirms its commitment to international connectivity, the competitiveness of the port system, and the strengthening of conditions that favor Peruvian foreign trade, promoting greater articulation with strategic partners such as the United States.
