The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, stated that the priority is to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, which is being addressed jointly with partners of the European country.
"When oil is under pressure, prices at the pumps skyrocket. I know what this represents for the French people. What happens thousands of kilometers from our country always ends up weighing on our daily lives. That is why I am acting to reduce tensions, secure our supplies, and ease pressure on prices," the French president communicated.
"Following my discussions with the Iraqi Prime Minister earlier this week, I met today with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and the Emir of Qatar. The priority: to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz (a vital artery for oil transit), protect the energy infrastructure of our partners, and guarantee production. This is essential to secure our supplies," he added.
Macron emphasized that "we are working on this together with our partners in the coalition for freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. We are also working on opening alternative routes to reduce our dependence on this strategic passage and secure our supplies."
"More routes for oil mean less dependence. Less dependence means more security. And more security means less pressure on prices. Reduce tensions. Secure oil. Lower pressure on prices at the pumps. Protecting the French people is also this," he added.
Global fuel prices, as in France, have soared in recent weeks due to disruptions linked to the conflict in the Middle East, with gasoline and diesel reaching record levels.
It is noted that the Houthi rebel group in Yemen, which resumed fighting with government forces in July, has made recent advances and taken control of Bab el-Mandeb, a decisive passage for Saudi crude exports since Iran restricted navigation through Hormuz.
