General Cargo Vessel NS Spirit Towed to Safety After Machinery Failure in Turkey

The Belize-flagged general cargo vessel NS Spirit experienced a breakdown at the Izmat Bay, Turkey, on 25 September. No marine pollution was observed from the incident.

The vessel suffered machinery failure off Darica while exiting from the Izmat Bay en-route to Balchik Port, Bulgaria. In response to the emergency, Turkey's Directorate General of Coastal Safety (KEGM) dispatched the tugboat SARK tugboat.

Subsequently, the vessel was towed by a tugboat under the coordination of the Izmit Ship Traffic Services Center and safely anchored at the Eskihisar Anchorage Area.

NS Spirit is a 1994-built vessel that measures 89.56 meters in length, 13.17 meters in width and has a cargo carrying capacity of 202,000 cubic feet.
