The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) reported that it is monitoring the development of the collision that occurred between the bulk carrier First Margaux and a fishing vessel, near the territorial waters of Singapore.
According to what was reported by the AMP, after a telephone communication held with the Company Security Officer (CSO), it was confirmed that the larger vessel - which flies the Panamanian flag - did not suffer structural damage as a result of the impact.
The other vessel involved suffered structural damage due to the impact; however, it managed to stay afloat and is sailing under its own power to the next port for necessary repairs, as indicated by the Panamanian entity.
Likewise, the AMP was able to confirm that both crews are in good health and safe.
The incident occurred on Thursday, September 17, when both vessels were heading towards the Strait of Malacca, at the height of the Sentosa area. On that route, the First Margaux overtook the fishing vessel, colliding with the bow of the latter and causing the flooding of a significant part of the smaller vessel.
The Panama Maritime Authority assured that it will continue to review the progress of the passage, aligning with international navigation safety regulations.
