Maersk Reduces ECS Surcharge on S5S India-South Africa Route

Maersk announced a reduction in the Emergency Contingency Surcharge (ECS) on the S5S trade route connecting India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to South Africa & Indian Ocean Islands. The surcharge decreases from USD 1,500 to USD 500 per container for all 20' and 40' dry equipment, effective from Price Calculation Date 10-Sep-2026. The reduction reflects improved operational conditions despite ongoing Red Sea and Gulf of Aden disruptions.
