Houthi Strikes Kill Six on Egyptian Cargo Vessel in Bab el-Mandeb
Six people, including four crew members and two rescuers, were killed in successive Houthi attacks on the Egyptian-owned cargo vessel Tihamah on 11 August in the Bab el-Mandeb strait. The deaths mark the first shipping fatalities linked to Houthi strikes since the US-Iran War began in February 2026. The vessel, a Tanzanian-flagged deck cargo ship built in 2024, was struck twice; the second attack occurred when rescue boats arrived on scene. Ten additional people were injured in the incident.
