Rhine River Water Level Drops Again, Worsening Navigation Crisis
Water levels in the Rhine River fell again on Monday, July 27, due to insufficient rainfall in southern Germany, according to the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV). The drought and heatwave have reduced vessel loading capacity to 15% or 20%, increasing tanker barge rates from Rotterdam to Karlsruhe to 120-125 euros per ton, compared to 45 euros at the end of June.
