Yamal LNG exports to EU surge past 2025 total amid Arctic trade shift

EU spending on Russian Yamal LNG reached €7.28 billion between January 1 and September 5, 2026, surpassing the entire 2025 total of €7.2 billion. During the first eight months of 2026, EU ports received 156 Yamal LNG cargoes carrying 11.39 million tonnes, up 10.1% year-over-year, pushing the EU's share of Yamal exports to nearly 89%. The project relies on specialized Arc7 ice-class carriers, with Seapeak and Dynagas vessels accounting for approximately 72% of exports during the period.
